RUST RUST RUST !!!!!!
I love it, I did 3 pieces and took 11 pics ,I like them all so much could't choose which ones to post so posted them all... LOL
The green pieces I unwrapped only after a few days, should have left it longer, so I thought I would try some color on it, I used, some water down acrylic paint blues and green and some green koolaid and a few teaspoons of green Tintex fabric dye. I put in in a small bowl and put a small plate on it so it would all be submerged and left it over night.
I really didn't like it till I saw it in the pics I took...
It looks like the beginning of a underwater scene :):)
One piece is a cotton bag we used to get our Cream of Wheat bag at work, I took one home hoping to use it one day..
I flip them all over to see how each side looks...
I love this processe it always a surprise when you unwrap it and the look is so cool, I could see cutting up large pieces and making a patched skirt out of them..
I'm going to do a lot of these so if anyone is interested in purchasing one they are around 52cm by 77cm for 20 pounds or 40 dollars, I'm new at selling so forgive me if this isn't worded right:):)
OK this will be my last posting for a little while.. I'm going on holidays for 2 weeks, but you can be sure if I'm near a computer I'll just have to come and check on all my friends, and yes I'll be talking about you, telling them all about all the lovely creative people I have met on line..... I'll be thinking of you all..
I'm going to a family Reunion our 45th one, then visiting my DB in Espanola Ont. a visit to my favorite place in Canada, Manitoulin Island on Lake Huron.
Then to my DS cottage on the French River, who by the way stays there from May till Oct..
Take care of yourselves talk to you soon...

RUSTING A NEW PIECE

I fianally started my rusted piece of chains..
For anyone who hasn't done this it's very simple..
You can actually use any type of material,
with anything that will rust (steel)..
I'm doing a art quilt about the underground railway
in Nova Scotia Canada for a friend...
I used a piece of cotton sheet, I bought at the charity shop
and just ripped a piece off, layed a piece of chain then rolled
it over added another piece of chain until I got to the end of
the material put it in the bucket and soaked it in vinegar..
You can use white or brown doesn't matter. I'll leave it for
a week, if it get dry I just add a bit more vinegar to dampen it.
The ust will bleed into the material and when you undo it.
Well its like magic, I love to do this...
You can put the rusted piece anywhere,

This is another one I did with all kinds of rusted bits and just kept
wrapping it together. I have some thin steel wire and I tie the
piece up with it..

This is how I layed them out

This next one I used big rusty washers, good Dofasco Steel...
Okay I'm off to work on something else, I hope I will have a pic of it tomorrow..

NEW RUST PIECE

Well I unwrapped the piece rusting.
When it is first unwrapped the steele leaves
black particles on the material so I always
hand wash it in warm soapy water and have
to scrub the cloth to take all the black stuff off.
Then I let it sit for a couple of hours in warm
water with fabric softener. This get rid of the
vinegar smell and softens the cloth..
Sadly it didn't turn out like I wanted it to,
I didn't wrap anything around it ..
So when I turn it over, which I do a few
times while it is rusting, the chains moved
around. No real impression of the chains.
I'll have to do another piece and make sure
I wrap it up tight after puting the chains on..
Oh well another piece for my rust pile....
If anybody wants a piece of my rusted cotton
let me know and I will post you a piece..

PAPER QUILT FOR OUR CHALLENGE

Here is my paper quilt for our challenge with
Sandyhttp://smarcoux.blogspot.com/
Suzannehttp://fromthecornersofmymind.blogspot.com/
Luci http://loocheeta.blogspot.com/.
I used the theme of my new life style.
I used a pic on the CD I'm dancing to Jody Watley.
I made some cloth with scrim and rice paper.
I painted on top the ones with the silver marks on it.
Some beautiful material I picked up in England (fat quarters)
I use some of my rust for the background and used
paper for the border. I haven't put a rod pocket on it yet..
I love how it turned out and I'm finally getting
used to my sewing machine :):):)

GIFT

May 16th is my DS Martha she is the oldest and the
sweetest.. She also is a Quilter, belongs to the Guild.
I know she never looks at my blog I can show you.
I'm making here a Paper Quilt she will be able to
hang up.
It was a kids puzzle so I hope to make it look like a quilt
I used some beautiful quilted paper Tonniece gave
me around the border, the put 2 kinds o home made
paper I bought.
This was the second time cuting out the puzzle pieces.
The first ones were blue and green in the same kind
of paper. Sadly I wasn't paying attention while I was
tracing them out, so they were a liitle mixed up..
Good thing though because I think Martha will like these
colors better and I have pretty extra cut out puzzle pieces.
Bonus LOL....
More on it later.
Oh and didn't take a pic of my new rust
piece in the pail, will have to do that..

STITCHING IS DONE

Well I put it on a piece of rust( which looks yellow but really brown) then I stamped it with my walnut ink (small Celtic circles). I used silk cocoon rods to frame the circle. I had wet them, stretched them, then to cut them in half length wise. I stitched the out side and beaded the inside of the rods I just have to hem and maybe back it.. I might add some gold foil a bit on it... Posted by Picasa

FIRST UFO ALMOST FINISHED

I started this in a little workshop Sandy gave me in England. We started with tissue paper I drew a celtic design in crayon then iron it on with bondoweb onto some lutrador. Then stained it with tea...
So I now have stitched the beads on and stitched
some fancy yarns then painted it with nail polish, it gives it a leather look and also some liquid gold leaf, added a bit of copper glitter. I add some walnut ink to make it a bit browner.. Now I have to burn an uneven edge around it and add it to a background, maybe a piece of my rust not sure yet.. Posted by Picasa

Poster Is Done

Well I finally finished it, I can't seem to get a good pic of it, its quite large and shiny.. I made a few coffee beans out of polymer clay and painted them to add to the string at top.. In the left hand corner it says reciepe for comfort a piece of cake, I added the name of the cafe along the left hand side, its on the coffee filter so looks like the writing on a coffee bean bag . I'm pleased how it turned out.. Now to see if I can sell it to the cafe owner. If she likes this one I will do a couple more for her cafe.. I don't have a clue how much to sell these posters for ( never having sold anything before, not counting the rust for my DS)..
If you have any ideas I would gladly appreciate them..
Its 2 1/2 ft by 3 1/4 ft.. Posted by Picasa
